The Young Generation

While I do not think of myself as old, I am at 31 years not in the youngest generation. I've been watching students in college throughout the national campaign and I've even listened to some youth express their support for Obama. While I'm not going to rip on their opinion, I am extremely frustrated with what I heard today. While being interviewed, a young man at Penn State stated that he and many of his friends have stated that if the general election comes down to McCain vs Clinton, they simply will not vote. What? These kids are walking around American universities not learning anything. Do they not know how many have died for their ability to vote? Do they think that they are sending a message by not voting? They are not. The only people they hurt by not voting are themselves. They are not upholding their obligation to the Constitution, they are loosing their opportunity to have an impact on American politics and direction, they are choosing to abuse themselves. So this is where we are? Our universities are filled with thousands of self abusive young adults, who, when not having it their way, will opt to not have it anyway. Give me a break.
